Bray Says 'Yes We Can'

The people of Bray will have an opportunity of combating the recession on Wednesday 15th July at 7.30pm when Bray Lions Club will hold a 'Yes We Can' Action Meeting at St. Thomas Community College, Bray.

Anybody with an idea for a new business or community enterprise which will stimulate job creation and economic activity in Bray is invited to attend and so are those who would like to invest or work for such enterprises.

"We want to respond to the current economic downturn in a positive manner", says Bray Lions Club project leader J.J. O'Dwyer. "We believe that a fund of positive ideas for job creation exists within the community and we are creating an environment in which these ideas can be developed into real projects."

The evening will open with a short keynote address by Brendan Keenan, economics editor of the Irish Independent following which those present will be invited to put job creation ideas forward for consideration. Where support for an idea is evident, the proposer will have an opportunity of meeting with like-minded people including potential investors or partners. Ideas and suggestions can also be submitted in the form of a short note and these will be displayed on a special exhibit. Members of Bray Lions Club will be on hand to help set up working groups which will advance the job creation proposals.

Employment and enterprise support organisations such as FAS, Enterprise Ireland, Failte Ireland, Wicklow County Enterprise Board and Bray Town Council have also been invited to send representatives who can be consulted by those present.

Says Bray Lions Club president Frank Corr:
"The motto of Lions Clubs International is "We Serve" and the 'Yes We Can' Action Meeting will be our contribution to serving the local economy during at this difficult time. The theme of the evening will be entirely positive, focusing on what can be achieved in the current economic environment. We look forward to a big turn out of people who have creative ideas and a positive attitude."

'Yes We Can' is supported by Bray Chamber of Commerce. Says incoming president John Nolan: "Like the rest of the country, Bray has experienced job losses and a downturn in economic activity over the past year. However a strong market continues to exist locally, nationally an abroad for innovative products and services and we are confident that new concepts and ideas will emerge from the Action Meeting."

Admission to 'Yes We Can' is free of charge and a full report on the proceedings will be sent to all who register.
