from St. Cronan's B.N.S.

Ten budding young artists from St. Cronan’s School were awarded prizes in this year’s Bray Lions Club Peace Poster Competition. It is part of an international series of competitions which aim to challenge young people all across the world to express their visions of peace through artwork.

The theme for this year’s competition was “Peace, Love & Understanding”, and the winning entries certainly embodied this theme. Each poster was judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.

“The standard was very high again this year”, said the project organiser Karl Ó Broin, “Each year we are delighted by the enthusiasm shown by all the young artists who take part, and the ideas of peace that they express are very inspiring.”

The overall winner this year was Dylan Kavanagh. Each of the winners received certificates and art sets to further their development as artists.

St. Cronan's BNS has always had a very close link with Bray Lions Club. In 2005, to express their gratitude for the help that the boys in St. Cronan's have given to many of the Lions Club's projects, the club sponsored the GAA kit for the school.

Over the last number years, the boys in St. Cronan's, and especially in Mr. Ó Broin's class have taken part in a wide variety of projects organised by the Lions Club. Some of these projects have included The International Peace Poster Competition, School Books for Liberia, Tsunami Victims Clothing Appeal, The Clean Sweep of Bray Spring Clean and Spectacle Recycling for Africa to name but a few.
